SumTrue (sumtrue.com) decides how the little data described here is used. To ask anything about this policy, write to privacy@sumtrue.com.

The short version

  • The calculators run in your browser. The names, hours, times, wages and tax figures you type are not sent to us and not stored by us.
  • There are no accounts, no ads and no affiliate links. We count visits with two analytics tools: Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, and Google Analytics, which sets cookies. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics runs only if you press Accept. Anywhere, you can turn it off under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
  • We do not sell or share personal information, and we have never done so.
  • Three things are kept on your own device, and you can clear all of them: your chosen state, any numbers in the page address, and a work schedule you build.
  • The personal information we collect is limited to the Google Analytics cookie ID and the visit details tied to it, your email address and message if you write to us, and the basic request details any web host receives.

What stays on your device

Your state or country choice. If you pick a state in a calculator, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the name sumtrue.region, so the next calculator opens with the same rules. It never leaves your device. Clearing your browser's site data removes it, and choosing "federal rules only" also clears it.

The page address. To let you bookmark or share a result, a calculator adds your entries to the end of the page address after a # sign (for example #rate=20&hours=45). Browsers do not send the part after # to a website, so these numbers stay on your device unless you share the link. Anyone you send the link to will see them. An older link that carries the numbers after a ? sign instead still works, but in that form the full address reaches our host, Cloudflare, as part of the normal web request. We do not read or keep those addresses.

Your work schedule. The work schedule maker saves the schedule you build in your browser's local storage under the name sumtrue:work-schedule:v1, so it is still there when you come back. That includes employee names, shift times, breaks, days off, the week's date and your week-start and time-format settings. It is never sent to SumTrue. Anyone who uses the same browser on the same device can see it. To remove it, press Clear schedule on the tool, which deletes every name and time and leaves a blank grid, or clear your browser's site data for sumtrue.com. In a private window the browser may not save it at all. A CSV file you download is saved by your browser to your device; we do not get a copy.

What our host receives

SumTrue is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. Like every website host, Cloudflare receives your IP address, the page you request and basic browser details when you load a page, so it can deliver the page and block attacks. Cloudflare handles this under its own privacy policy. We do not use that data to identify you, build a profile, or follow you across sites.

Location guess. When a page opens without a saved cookie choice, and when a calculator opens, it asks our own server for your country and US state, which Cloudflare works out from your IP address. Only the two codes come back (for example US and CA), so the page knows whether to ask for cookie consent first and the calculator can preselect your state's rules. We do not store the guess, and you can change it with one tap. Your saved choice always wins over the guess. Cloudflare keeps a technical log of each of these lookups (the address requested, the time and related request details, which can include your IP address) for 3 days, and we use it only to find and fix errors.

Fonts and files. Fonts, scripts and images are served from sumtrue.com. Loading a page contacts no font service. The only outside services a page can contact are the two analytics tools below.

If you email us

When you write to hello@, privacy@ or ads@sumtrue.com, the message is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to a Gmail inbox, so Google stores it as our email provider (Google privacy policy). We use your address and message only to reply, to fix the page you reported, and to keep a record of a privacy request. We delete correspondence that needs no record after 24 months, or sooner if you ask.

Analytics

We use analytics to see how many people visit, which calculators they use and which pages they find hard, so we can fix them. Neither tool receives the names, hours, times, wages or tax figures you type: those stay in your browser. The page address we send to Google Analytics is cut to the page itself, without anything after a ? or #, and Cloudflare says Web Analytics does not log the part after a ? (Cloudflare FAQ).

Cloudflare Web Analytics. Every page loads a small script from Cloudflare that measures page views and how fast the page loads. Cloudflare says it uses no cookies or local storage, does not fingerprint visitors by IP address or browser details, and does not track individual visitors across its customers' sites (Cloudflare Web Analytics, how it collects data).

Google Analytics. Google Analytics 4 counts visits, pages viewed, the site that sent you, your rough location (country and city), and your device and browser type. Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses (Google). We have turned off Google signals, ad personalisation and data sharing with Google's other products, so this data is not used for advertising. We keep it for 14 months. Google processes it for us as our service provider, under Google's data processing terms (Google) and its privacy policy.

  • In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, and when we cannot tell where you are, Google Analytics does not load at all until you press Accept on the cookie banner. Reject is just as easy, and the site works the same either way.
  • Everywhere else, Google Analytics loads when the page opens. You can turn it off under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page.
  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends this signal, Google Analytics does not load unless you later choose Accept yourself.

Cookies

Google Analytics cookies are set only when Google Analytics runs: _ga and _ga_<ID>, which tell one visit from the next and last up to 2 years (Google's list). Choosing Reject deletes them.

Your cookie choice is saved in your browser's local storage under st-consent, so we do not ask on every page. It is kept for 12 months, then you are asked again. A st-cc entry in session storage holds your country code until you close the tab, so the location guess is not repeated on every page.

Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie when it needs to check that a visitor is not a bot. That cookie is used only for that check.

Change your mind at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page, or by clearing your browser's site data for sumtrue.com.

Neither is on SumTrue today. Before either is added, this policy will be updated first, with the name of each provider, what it collects, and how to opt out. Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland will be asked for consent through a consent tool certified by Google before any advertising cookie is set.

Do Not Track and tracking across sites. SumTrue does not track you across other websites, and Google Analytics runs here with Google signals and ad personalisation off. Google Analytics does recognise a returning browser on sumtrue.com through its cookie. We do not respond to the "Do Not Track" signal, which has no agreed standard; we do honour Global Privacy Control, as described above.

Your rights in US states (including California)

Residents of California and several other US states have the right to know what personal information a business collects, to get a copy, to correct it, to have it deleted, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising.

Do not sell or share my personal information. SumTrue does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Google Analytics runs here with ad personalisation off, and you can still turn it off under "Cookie settings". If that ever changes, a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link will appear in the footer of every page before it does, and we will honor the Global Privacy Control signal sent by your browser as a valid opt-out without asking you to do anything else.

What we collect, why, and for how long. Online identifiers (the Google Analytics cookie ID) and your activity on sumtrue.com, kept 14 months, to count visits and fix pages. Approximate location (country, state, city) from your IP address, for the same purpose and to preselect your state's rules. Request logs, kept 3 days, to fix errors. Your email address and message, kept up to 24 months, to reply.

Sensitive information. We do not collect it.

How to make a request. Email privacy@sumtrue.com and say what you want. We hold no accounts, and Google Analytics data is held under a random cookie ID that we cannot link to your name. To delete it, choose Reject under "Cookie settings", which removes the cookie, and we can delete the data tied to that ID if you send it to us. For email you sent us, we may ask you to write from that same address to confirm it is you. We reply within 45 days. You can also ask someone to act for you, with your written permission. We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.

Your rights elsewhere

Wherever you live, you can ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to privacy@sumtrue.com. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

SumTrue is a general-audience site and is not directed to children under 13. The minors' work-hours calculator is written for teenagers of working age, their parents and employers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has emailed us, write to privacy@sumtrue.com and we will delete the message.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. A change that adds a new kind of data collection, such as ads or analytics, will be made here before that collection starts.
