Not legal, tax or payroll advice. SumTrue's calculators and articles give estimates for general information. Nobody at SumTrue is acting as your lawyer, accountant, tax preparer or payroll provider, and using the site does not create that relationship.

Why a result can differ from your paycheck

A calculator works only with what you enter and the rules it names. Your real pay or tax can be different because of things it does not know, for example:

  • whether you are exempt from overtime under federal or state law;
  • how your employer defines the workweek, or rounds clock times;
  • bonuses, commissions or shift pay that change your regular rate;
  • a union contract, company policy or local ordinance with its own rules;
  • your filing status, income and other deductions on your tax return.

Rules change

Every rule on a page shows the date it was last checked and links to the official source. Laws, rates and thresholds can change after that date. If the source and our page disagree, the official source is right.

Where to get a definite answer

Outside the US

At launch, rules on SumTrue are US federal and state rules. The time and hours calculators (decimal hours, time duration, 24-hour time) work anywhere, but pay rules in other countries are different and are not covered unless a page says so.

Mistakes

If you think a result or a rule is wrong, email hello@sumtrue.com with the page address and what you entered. See the Methodology page for how we check and correct pages.
