Affiliate and ad disclosure

Last verified

Today: SumTrue shows no ads and contains no affiliate links. It earns nothing from any page. The rules below apply from the first ad or affiliate link, and each ad network and affiliate program will be named here before it goes live.

How SumTrue plans to pay for itself

The calculators are free and will stay free. To cover hosting and the time it takes to keep rules up to date, SumTrue may later carry:

  • Display ads, served by an ad network.
  • Affiliate links, for example to time-tracking or payroll software. If you click one and buy, the seller may pay us a commission. We will only use programs where buying through our link does not raise your price.

Rules we follow

  1. Every ad is labeled "Advertisements". Ads sit in fixed spaces away from calculator inputs, buttons, results and menus, so they cannot be clicked by accident, and they are never styled to look like part of a calculator.
  2. Every affiliate link is disclosed next to the link, not only at the bottom of the page. The words will say plainly that we earn a commission if you buy.
  3. Paid links are marked for search engines with rel="sponsored", as Google asks.
  4. No payment changes a calculator. No advertiser or affiliate partner can buy a result, a rule, a default setting or the wording of a legal explanation.
  5. We say only what we have checked. We do not publish reviews of products we have not used, invented ratings, or testimonials. If a page compares products, it says how the comparison was made.
  6. No pop-up ads, pop-under ads or ads that redirect you, ever.

These rules follow the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255), which require any financial connection to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously; the FTC's guidance says that means close to the recommendation, not only on a separate page. They also follow Google's guidance on qualifying paid links.
